The music industry is competitive and cutthroat with a highly flooded market and mostly free listening on the internet. In the modern age, many artists are moving towards earning their paycheck through touring and performances, rather than record sales, and some artists excel in both methods. Have a look at some of the artists that are seen at almost every festival over the past few years, and for a good reason.
The Strokes
Coming from Manhattan, New York, the American rock band includes the lead singer, Julian Casablancas, Albert Hammond and Nick Valensi on guitar, Fabrizio Moretti on drums and Nikolai Fraiture on bass guitar. The group began in 1998 and has been one of the most notable bands reviving the post-punk and garage rock genres, as well as pushing the rise of indie rock within the music scene of New York City. Making music for over 20 years, and receiving significant commercial success globally with the record label RCA, the band has recently released a new album, their first in over seven years. One thing about the Strokes is, they have been touring almost the entire time, with only a few brief hiatus’ from the road, and in 2020, they are in the lineup for most of the major global music festivals including Coachella, Splendour in the Grass, and Nos Alive.
Flume
One of Australia’s most prominent artists, and also a record producer, musician and DJ all wrapped into one, Flume is widely acclaimed to be the pioneer of the genre known as future bass. This started with his debut album in 2012 which received multiple music awards and continued with a string of remixed tracks and singles in the ensuing years. Another commercially successful artist, signed to the label ‘Future Classic’, that appears on many major festival lineup lists. Flume is another example of an artist in the music industry whose performances are as popular, if not more so, than their music.
